Strange that with all the Ph.Ds and whatnot that have
been looking at stock price time seriesessess, everyone
doesn't ALREADY know what these "patterns" are, if
they are so friggin' "obvious"...

As a personal financial matter, you might consider
"selling out" NOW to a "New Yorker"...those guys are
idiots and they have a long history of buying ANYTHING
(for proof of this, just pick up today's paper, or
Google(TM) "Bear Stearns").

Lot's of chatter floating about Obama.
But, just give him a listen:

George Carlin's Solution to Save Gasoline

Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use.

The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants!
That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down.....
Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the Border....
When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some
ammo and ship him to Iraq ... Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the mil itary....
Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.....
After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country..... He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot.....
This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves.. ....
If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo.....
Problem solved.....

If you think this is a good solution to both the problems, forward it to your friends.

There are between 20 and 30 million illegals in America. An economic
boom of unprecedented
magnitude would result from their deportation.

The Fed As Bank

The Federal Reserve may be a central bank with special rights and
obligations, but in the end it, too, is a bank and has to be very
careful who it lends to and what kind of collateral it accepts in
exchange.

From a bank analyst perspective, during the last few months the Fed
has become increasingly more lax in its lending practices. It is
financing highly leveraged investment banks and brokers and accepting
a wide range of illiquid securities as collateral, particularly MBSs.

Let's look at the Fed's consolidated balance sheet (click to enlarge):

As of March 12, 2008 the Fed had almost $900 billion in assets, of
which $700 billion were in Treasury bills and notes and the rest in an
assortment of repos, the TAF facility, etc. The most recently
announced programs like the TSLF ($200 billion), the open-ended
discount window facility for investment banks/brokers and the $30
billion loan to Morgan (i.e. Bear's toxic assets) are not shown yet.

When those hit the books in the next few weeks, the asset mix will
change drastically. The Treasury holdings will go down and be replaced
by an assortment of GSE and private label securities. The Fed's risk
exposure will jump higher, and significantly so.

Like any other bank, the Fed does not have an unlimited amount of
money to lend - all it has is about $700 billion in Treasurys that it
can exchange for other, less marketable securities (and it has already
announced programs for a big part of that). In contrast, US home
mortgages alone amount to $10.5 trillion; if things keep unraveling,
the Fed's balance sheet will prove very small for the role it has now
chosen for itself.

As for the liability side, the Fed has issued about $800 billion of
its own Federal Reserve Notes, i.e. dollars. Our currency is thus
increasingly going to be backed by lower quality, riskier assets that
no one else wishes to buy or lend against, instead of Treasurys. In
effect, Mr. Bernanke is betting the farm on a quick real estate/
mortgage turnaround and a very shallow recession. Worse still, instead
of charging a higher interest rate for the loans made against the
riskier collateral, the Fed keeps cutting rates.

And just how sound is Mr. Bernanke's "bet the farm" wager on a quick
turnaround of the US real estate market? Judging from the following
chart, not very sound at all. Unlike previous real estate boom cycles
that lasted 2 to 4 years and peaked at 700-800.000 new homes sold per
year, the one now busting lasted 13 years and peaked in 2005 at
1.300.000 units. There has been a lot of housing demand satisfied for
many years to come and the downturn will not likely end soon.

Without Greenspan's negative real interest rates after 2000, the cycle
would have probably turned down (red line), avoiding the bubble of
2002-06. Based on this hypothesis, there have been almost 3 million
"extra" homes sold (black line minus red line), creating a fundamental
housing demand deficit that won't go away even if credit becomes cheap
again.

Let's summarize: riskier borrowers, low quality collateral
concentrated on real estate, questionable appraisals for market prices
and "low, low rates". Is the Fed turning itself into a sub-prime
lender? If I were a bank examiner, I would want to have a quiet word
with Mr. Chairman about his lending practices.

And if I were a shareholder or creditor of the Federal Reserve Bank
(remember what its liabilities are), I would be worried. As, indeed,
so many already are - they are those who are exchanging their dollars
for other currencies and commodities.

[ISG:94090] Re: How is our businesss doing?

I shared my experience a couple of days ago...and posting it again

I work for an Electronics design automation,  MNC. They have a freeze on new hiring. And same is the case in entire  semiconductor industry. But still we have special permission to hire in our team, so that we can capture this opportunity to hire the best in the industry. They offered 91% bonus this year (200% last and NIL before that). There have been no job cuts so far

Real estate prices here in Noida are going up every week or two. And people are actively purchasing multiple properties
I feel that there will be a hit in profit margins, but volumes should be up. And consumption will go up, coupled with standard of living. The budget has provided us with increased disposable incomes so that should account for slower earnings growth

ANYONE can see that I'm in a long term relationship, with a woman YOU are
deathly afraid of, have always posted I have no interest in anything else
then having YOU back up YOUR decade of threats to sue me over my posting
YOUR OWN words. You have lied about having a "..lawyer in my hometown.."
ready to sue me, about many many MANY "..fuckin' lawsuits.." you were about
to file against me, while all the time, you know where I live, my PH#, etc.

I DID beat you in court when you claimed me as "..john doe #17.." and the
court (who knew how to contact me) called you an "..inexcusable failure.."
because you failed to serve those you KNEW how to contact all the while.

Last month you (again) said a lawsuit was being filed against me..

...where is it, I'll (again) ID my self to the court right away.

In the meantime, I'll keep re-posting your suicidal, child molesting,
hate monging, faggot words right back at you, because I know it upsets
you to face your own past. BTW, how is the suicide going..any luck yet?

I am a psychic. When I can't find justice any other way, I cast a
spell. Here's another one:

I command the heavens to make this true: Any person who criticizes me
from this point forward will experience the following:

1. If they have a child in gymnastics, that child will suffer a
paralyzing injury in the gym;

2. If they do not have a child in gymnastics, their favorite gymnast
will suffer the same injury.

I do this not to wish injury on anyone, but to tell the Gods that I
have had enough of this criticism, and that if my request in the name
of God for people to begin looking at both sides of this story is not
heeded, then I will ask God to teach a lesson to those who ignore my
request.

Just so you know, I made a similar request regarding Tabitha a year
ago, she ignored it, and her son wound up ill in the hospital for the
entire summer. That is when she made her false allegations against me
which have led to what you see here.

Anyone else want to try me? If I turn out to be right, you will have
no one to blame but yourselves.

Don't mess with a psychic.

As opposed to what women think of someone like you - given the things
you have said about "women" in general.

The tone of a lot of your material is vehemently anti-woman.

Or are you going to claim that 95% of material posted in your name was
posted by someone else, pretending to be you ?

Excuse me, my irony meter exploded.

I sometimes wonder, Mr Parker, whether you understand the meaning of the
words you type. Here is a case in point. You sneer at someone for
posting "off-topic" - meanwhile almost everything *you* ever post is
off-topic for the group in which you post it.

This very thread - a screed about Bear Stearns is "on-topic" for a.s.f ?

You cross-posted this thread to a.s.f. , or did you not notice that ?
Or, do you just pretend to not notice ?

Is that the plan ?
Cross-post to multiple newsgroups, but pretend to not notice.
That way, when you get replies from the people in more than one
newsgroup, you can loudly claim - once again - to be a victim of what
*you* call "cyber-stalking" ?

PS:
I notice that you keep ignoring the open question:

How can you justify styling yourself as "the creator of the pivot" in
your marketing, when even your own words - in the .pdf you link to in
your sig block, no less - prove you to be nothing of the sort ?

Yeah, BMO seems to be the most volatile because of that. My fear is
that dividends might be cut making the stock even less attractive.
That may go for all the big Cdn. banks. I am thinking seriously about

There has been a huge amount of rubbish posted about short selling and
BSC, not the least of which is this silly nonsense posted recently by
Comix.

Comix, pay attention:
Bear Stearns is an investment bank, and there was a run on it.

That is so, according to Bear Stearns head of risk management for
Europe and Asia:

``It's publicly known that a lot of individuals in the company own a
good part of the company so we clearly believe there was value in the
organization, but when there is a run on the bank there's nothing you
can do. I guess we have to grin and bear it and move on to a strong
partnership with JPMorgan.''

quote by Mr. Kanwardeep Ahluwalia,
Bear Stearns head of risk management for Europe and Asia
Bloomberg Television March 17, 2008
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601170&refer=home&sid=asNrIu2S3odw

(note: If this gentleman's name is any indication he's likely of
Indian ancestry and has brown skin; you may expect to hear more
nonsense from S4B's like comix that he's a terrorist or that he is
socialist scum etc etc ad nauseum.)

Well, they don't call him Comix for nothing. Such nonsense is comical,
but not nearly as comical as the notion that short selling is for
'scum', that bearishness is unpatriotic, and that buying DXD is for
socialists.

However, short selling makes an important contribution to the market.
It provides liquidity, drives down overpriced securities, and
generally increases the efficiency of the markets.
http://www.investopedia.com/university/shortselling/shortselling4.asp

In fact, Marvin Pierce Bush, the youngest brother of President George
W. Bush is a short seller.

Currently, Marvin Bush is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at the
investment firm Winston Capital Management, located in McLean,
Virginia. He has portfolio manager duties at Winston.

From the Company website:

"Winston's hedge fund products seek to provide individual and
institutional investors with diversified exposure to hedge funds.
Winston manages several funds of funds, which are multi-manager

A few years ago, my ex-sec'y visited me from Sri Lanka where she was
living with her hubby......she saw a 1st edition of 2001 on my bookshelf and
slipped it into her bag(unnoticed by me).......3 weeks later, it came back
in the mail with a few nice paragraphs on the flypage & signed by
Clarke......He had been living as an ex-pat in Colombo for many years.......

How does a broker make money on margin calls???
What do you mean when you say "buying peoples shares before they had a
chance to recover alil"??? Brokers SELL the stock if margin calls are not
met........

What a great country this is, when a guy with no knowledge of credit
or margin, with no concept of finance or procedure can be one of the
largest shareholders of GCOG.

After a margin call, the borker sells at market, they earn the commish
and market forces dictate the rest. BSC NEVER traded at $2, closest
it came was $2.88 and that was only for a fifteen minute period.

Todays market has the following fundamentals which cause this stuff,
too many shorts chasing too few ops & covering way quick before
they get their own margin calls.

IMHO there is no or little $$$ left on the short side of anything, you
need
to study, watch and play the eventual short squeeze, just like the
mar-
ket overall.

I do think mass default is a good thing. First because it is nice to see
people act rationally for a change and second because defaults will bring
risk back into the investment game. Once risk is back then real interest
rates and decent dividends for investors come back - in former times one
would expect dividends well above bond rates because of the risk in stocks.
The last decade or even more investors got nothing apart from asset
inflation.

PS:
I also liked the Serbs burning the US embassy while the Sebian police
watched with beer and sausages at the ready - again because *why* should
people just bend over for "The Man"? Why is the US so keen on a muslim
mafia-state in Europe? To weaken the competition or to provide a way for the
Afghan heroin??

Yesterday's price action in the stock market indicates at least a
short term bottom is in place. Whether this rally leads to a new bull
market or is just a bear market rally will not be known until either
the old highs are taken out or the recent lows are taken out.
However, I would suggest that based on the price action of the last
week, it is safe to at least dip your toes in the water. For more
thoughts, check out kungfutrader.com.

What is the significance of the results "steadily improving?"
Have you changed your trade selection criteria?

So you're day-trading a single "rocket ship", probably a low-priced
issue. You've already got a ton of volatility inherent in the stock, which
tends to negate any market out-performance of your short-term results
statistically...

> By the time I got a broker a nice gain turned into the loss.
> The other two losers were 2% each.

I'm assuming that trading gap did not CAUSE the losses, right?

> But 8 out of the 13 winners were 5%, %5, 7%, 10%, 10%, 10%17%,23%.

This sounds like either a penny stock, or maybe Bear Stearns (same
difference)...

> And this is trading while I can only sneek onto the company
> computer for less than an hour a day, and mostly using
> my cell phone for trading. With it's little-bitty fuzzy charts.

So you're using charts for your trade selection criteria, and
nothing else? You're just using a time series of the price data
(and maybe volume), and nothing else?

BTW, this is called "charting" in stock trading (great name!),
and of course traders have been doing it for years. Just using
a time series of price data as trade selection criteria is
generally referred to as "technical analysis" by traders...

This is also the key concept of all "technical analysis", but
the "true believers" will aver ALL future price action can ONLY
be reliably traded based on past price action.

The moth in that particular buttermilk is something like the
sudden near-bankruptcy of a major investment bank, but they
parry that by noting that you can rarely if ever predict stuff
like that anyway (personally, and statistically, I don't agree
with that).

Well, one specific use I make of the "chaotic boundary" (another
name for what you're talking about) is for option trading, which can
be quite profitable if you can predict increases/decreases in volatility.
So I have been using some very specific techniques related
to what you're talking about for about 18 years now...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, things fly apart, the center cannot hold...

I like how crazy people get when their stock trading schemes
don't pan out...which is of course part of the "chaos" of the
market.

> The trick is to find a chart that is at this delicate transition point.

Can't you parse out the condition using just the price data
alone? That's what I do, but I also have the capability to "read"
charts for "patterns" algorithmically if need be...in any case,
to either rigorously test or most profitably utilize your
"discovery", you need to be able to apply it to tens of
thousands of past/future charts quickly, the way only a
computer program can do it...

I liked the rats in college. If they got a reward for pressing
the green button, they would press the green button more and
more, and if they got a punishment for pressing the red button,
they would press the red button less and less.

And if you just randomly gave out rewards and punishments
for pressing either button, they would go crazy, and begin posting
all kinds of racist idiotic hair-brained contradictory conspiracy
theoried stock trading strategies on Usenet...

Been there, done that, made enough money to buy
my own T-shirt. You need to test this a LOT better
than just running a test with your own money, and the
fact that you began "testing" with your own money
without apparently performing back-testing casts
doubt on the rigor of your "research" to come to
this amazing "discovery"...

See above.

It was a little longer ago than that, if I recall. But over the years,
all the amazing "discoveries" just kind of blur together, you know...

> I'm finally giving it a test with larger
> sums of money.

Again, how many times have I heard THAT before? Anyway,
nice talkin' to ya...I mean, you do understand that the amount
of money YOU "test" it with has NOTHING to do with any actual
"proof" that the system works, right?

> Eh hum...I finally have larger sums of
> money to test it with...I should say~
> In the past it's tested out about the same.

So DID you actually perform rigorous back-testing, or just
do a little trading and declare "victory"?

We all have, but in this case there's a way to be pretty much
right the FIRST time, potentially saving you a lot of your hard-earned
dollars...

BINGO!!!! Now apply that concept rigorously, and if it truly
works, "do the right thing", never post here again, make a fortune
in secret!

> The trades so far are only a tease, more than hope

From what I can tell, much closer to a "hope"...

Maybe you should study just a little bit of physics, look up
the name "Heisenberg", or any type of game theory dealing
with pari-mutuel payoffs, or poker (your chaotic boundary is
the result of what in poker is called players "going on tilt").

If all traders have access to the same information and use
the same strategy to trade the market, much of the potential
profit you can make would disappear. The stock market offers
excellent trading opportunities primarly because of the mistakes
made by other traders.

Tell me about it...it's a friggin' full-time job, that mostly results
in blind alleys, so don't quit your REAL job...

Nature shows us how to wreck the friggin' SuperDome, after
the weatherman "predicts" the storm will not hit New Orleans...but
Lorenz told us 50 years ago why we couldn't predict nature with
anywhere near 100% accuracy...riiiiiight?!??!!
